R-CALF Concerned With Bovine TB Spread In Canada And Mexico

Thousands of cattle are being culled amid a bovine tuberculosis outbreak in Alberta, Canada. Canadian officials are reporting the total size of the herd now being destroyed numbers around 10,000. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard says his group is concerned Bovine TB first became a problem in Mexico and now has spread to Canada.

He says Canadian officials are working vigorously to eliminate the disease and keep it from spreading.

The recent Bovine TB strain detected in Canada is closely related to a strain originating from cattle in central Mexico in 1997.
