Brazil which is the world’s largest beef and chicken exporter and the fourth largest pork exporter is now struggling with coronavirus in its meatpacking industry. Close to 2400 meat packing employees from 24 Brazilian slaughter houses have been confirmed to have the virus. R CALF CEO Bill Bullard says what’s concerning with Brazil is how they handle food safety and the U.S. government is depending on other government’s food protection steps.

He says the U.S. needs to take proper food safety defensive actions and not trust countries like Brazil to protect any food they export to the U.S., especially beef.

Bullard says the primary disease concern with Brazil remains foot and mouth disease and what’s even more concerning is that the U.S. has allowed them to export beef to the United States.

Brazil now has more than half a million cases of coronavirus and close to 30,000 deaths.
