Brazil’s agriculture ministry says the ban on fresh Brazilian beef exports to the United States may be lifted this month. The prediction on the end of the ban came after U.S. officials informed Brazil they would allow processed beef imports to resume from five of their beef plants. R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard says the ban needs to remain in place and it’s unsafe to lift it yet. He says there are several problems with Brazil relating to beef trade.
He says USDA food safety inspectors, who were in Brazil two weeks ago, indicated Brazil isn’t even close to being able to export product to the U.S.
Bullard says Brazil needs to start from scratch in proving its beef is safe for export.
While some countries have lifted their ban on Brazilian beef, the U.S. has not done so saying there is no timeline in place for lifting the ban as of yet.
