R-CALF this week unveiled their long range plan for 2021 to 2025. In that they’re calling for repeal of the beef checkoff. The group is also circulating a petition so cattle producers across the country can have a vote on whether or not to keep the beef checkoff. One of those passing petitions around is R CALF member and Broken Bow area Nebraska rancher Karina Jones. She says it’s been 35 years since producers have been able to vote on the checkoff.
She says their main push now is just to get enough signatures to be able to get a vote on the beef checkoff.
Jones says she’s hearing great support from her fellow cattle producers who want to be able to vote in a beef checkoff referendum.
Jones says a recent fundraiser R CALF had at Fort Pierre Livestock for their petition effort netted $41,000 in donations. She says anyone wanting information about their petition can log onto checkoffvote.com.
