A report out this week shows the State of South Dakota ended the fiscal year with a one hundred fifteen-million-dollar budget surplus.
Of that, over forty-three million dollars was budgeted by legislators and not spent. That has the attention of Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton, Co-Chair of the Joint Appropriations Committee..
The budget surplus will be added to the state reserve fund, which now has a balance of over four hundred twenty million dollars.
Hunhoff says those funds may be needed as soon as next year…..
Hunhoff says there will be many demands for those reserve dollars….
The Appropriations Committee meets next week to get more details on the budget and ongoing revenue projections.
