A large working group appointed by South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard is looking at a plan that could expand Medicaid coverage.

Senator Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton is a member of the group and says it is a major issue…

 

Hunhoff says the Indian Health Service is badly underfunded, and does not deliver the services it is supposed to on reservations. He says that shortfall could be the key to expanded Medicaid coverage across the state…

Hunhoff says they plan to meet every two week to look for workable solutions. Daugaard has been hesitant in the past to endorse expansion of Medicaid because of future costs to the state.
