The chairman of the Nebraska legislature’s Agriculture Committee says he has heard the complaints…and will address the issue of so-called puppy mills this legislative session.
The issue arose during debate on the confirmation of Greg Ibach to continue as State Agriculture Director.
Ag Committee Chairman Jerry Johnson of Wahoo says his committee has heard the complaints loud and clear. . .

The issue came to a head during the prosecution of a Malcolm dog breeder, who had to shut her operation down after being found guilty of criminal animal neglect.
Julia Hudson had been allowed to continue operations even though she had failed four state inspections in a row.

Senator John Kuehn of Heartwell says he talked with Ibach as he prepared legislation to crack down on so-called puppy mills. . .

The legislature confirmed Ibach on a 29-to-2 vote.
He began serving as State Agriculture Director in 2005 and was re-appointed by Governor Pete Ricketts.
