Proposed Air Quality Standards Worries Farm Bureau

The American Farm Bureau Federation is concerned about air quality standards proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency. The group has submitted comments to the agency. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott Vanderwal says his group wants EPA to leave the current standard at 75 parts per billion rather than tightening them to 65 and 70 parts per billion.

Vanderwal says under EPA’s proposal part of South Dakota would fall under their rules. He says there are no air quality problems in the state to justify that.

Vanderwal says the levels EPA wants to regulate areas that can’t be controlled.

Vanderwal says if the EPA standards are adopted then the energy industries will see a major negative impact.
