Proposal To Reduce Property Taxes

A Nebraska state senator proposes a different approach to public school funding…in an effort he says to better balance school funding and lower property taxes.
Senator Al Davis of Hyannis proposes lowering the property tax on farmland from the current 75-percent of its market value to 65-percent. The drop in tax revenue would be off-set by a local income tax, dedicated to the school district. . .

The proposal also guarantees all school districts state aid of 500-dollars per pupil.

Executive Director Renee Fry with the Open Sky Policy Institute says most Nebraska residents will pay a lower overall tax bill under the proposal. . .

Proponents estimate the proposal would lower property taxes by more than 400-Million dollars and increase income taxes by nearly 370-Million.
