Organizers in Nebraska have begun a petition drive to gather 85,000 signatures by July 5 to place a measure on this year’s ballot in November. Trent Fellers is the petition sponsor for the group “Yes to Property Tax Relief”
He says they’re getting backing from not only agricultural groups but also those from Nebraska’s cities and towns.
Fellers says their measure mirrors property tax relief legislation introduced by State Senator Steve Erdmann of Bayard. He says should that measure be approved, then the petition drive will cease.
Fellers says currently Nebraska has the fifth highest level of property taxes and the goal is to get that reduced to somewhere in the middle of national property tax rates.
