The key policy issue for the Nebraska Cattlemen Association as the Unicameral convenes next January 4 is tax reform. Vice President of Legislative Affairs Laura Field says property taxes top the list of needed cuts, although they’re also open to looking at reductions in both sales and income taxes.
She says the current tax structure in Nebraska is very imbalanced with property taxes carrying too much of the financial burden.
Field expects there to be swift movement on tax reform legislation early in the session.
Field says the negative impact of increasing property taxes is being felt not only by livestock and grain producers, but is also trickling down to the rural communities.
