The Yankton County Commission passed a property tax increase last month that would be used to fund road and highway maintenance.
That ninety cent per thousand increase has been referred, and will be the focus of a special election on September 29th.
A public forum was held last night to discuss the issue.
County Commission Chairman Tood Woods outlined the current county highway budget…
Opponent, and former county commissioner Garry Moore says the initial tax is too high…
If the tax is rejected by the voters later this month, Moore says the commission will figure something out…
Woods says if the voters reject the tax, they don’t have many other realistic options…
The property tax increase would raise about one point five million dollars per year.
