Hopes for property tax cuts emerging from this Nebraska legislative session have died quietly.
Speaker Jim Scheer had placed three different property tax-cut bills on the agenda, but after a weekend of negotiations failed to produce a compromise, Scheer passed over the bills and moved on to other legislation.
Scheer says the failure disappointed him
A state senator who carried Governor Ricketts’ tax cut plan this legislative session says negotiations broke down over the weekend due to one sticking point.
Senator Jim Smith says he refused suggestions to increase the sales tax to pay for a cut in property taxes.
