Nebraska is the only state that bans children of illegal immigrants from obtaining a driver’s license and Creighton University Associate Professor Diana Thomas wants to see that change. She says these young individuals have legal work permits and social security numbers but yet they can not get a driver’s license that makes it nearly impossible to hold down a job and pay taxes.
Thomas knows first hand how important it is to be able to legally drive in this state.
Thomas says many of these young individuals drive illegally and without insurance and that hurts everyone on the road. She says giving these young adults who are legally allowed to work access to driver’s licenses is in our own economic interest.
