Farmers can take some strategic steps at harvest season to expedite Market Facilitation Program payments from the Farm Service Agency. Iowa State University Extension Farm Management Specialist Steve Johnson says to prove actual production, only one number is needed for each crop.
He recommends farmers submit their actual production information to their crop insurance agent first and then to FSA.
Johnson says it makes sense to file right away for MFP payments rather than waiting until harvest is completed.
Johnson says it’s important to expedite the MFP payment on soybeans because that first payment could be $40 to $50 per acre. He says for any questions, farmers should get in touch with their local FSA office or go on line at farmer.gov.mfp.
