With corn now in or near pollination, Iowa farmers are being advised to scout for the usual suspects of pests. That’s according to Dr. Erin Hodgson, Iowa State University Extension Entomologist. She says pollination can be hampered by those insects, mainly corn rootworm feasting on corn silks.
She says it’s critical producers scout their fields for these damaging insects.
Hodgson says while there are several treatment options available to producers, many will have to go to aerial applications of pesticides.
Hodgson says the pest damage can reduce the number of kernels and or kernel weights.
