Several Nebraska counties have producers now eligible for emergency haying and grazing under the Conservation Reserve Program. Bobbie Kriz Wickham with the Nebraska State Farm Service Agency says when counties reach D-2 on the U.S. drought monitor they become authorized to offer emergency haying and grazing. She says the most recent counties to become eligible include Cedar and Dixon.

She says anyone wanting to hay or graze on CRP acres must contact their county FSA office and complete some paperwork before proceeding.

Wickham says those who emergency hay or graze under the CRP won’t have their rental payments reduced.

Wickham advises any producer interested in this emergency option should phone ahead to their county FSA office for an appointment as some have in office ‘service while others are still only working on line, or by phone.
