This week the South Dakota State Senate joined the House in passing HB 1140, a measure which consolidates county zoning decisions on confined animal feedlots. Davison County pork producer Brad Greenway who testified in favor of the legislation is pleased with its passage.

He says while there’s a need to expedite the process for approving needed economic development, keeping local control in place is also important. Greenway thinks this bill achieves that.

Greenway says an amendment put into the legislation that took out the $ 250 bond needed in order to file an appeal is a good provision.

Greenway says it’s important to allow for responsible development going forward and HB 1140 accomplishes that.
