State prison inmate Jacob Abdo has been placed on escape status after violating conditions of the work release program.

The SD Department of Corrections, in a release, says Abdo failed to return to the Yankton Community Work Center June 28 following a search for work release employment.

Abdo, age 25, is a Native American male. He is 6-feet-2 inches tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds.

Abdo is serving a 5-year sentence with 3 years suspended for receiving/transferring a stolen vehicle out of Union County.

South Dakota Codified Law 22-11A-2.1 states that failure to return following assignment constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
