Excessive rains this spring resulted in some farmers in southeastern South Dakota taking prevent plant on a portion of their cropland. In Bon Homme County prevent plant acres will be around 15-percent, while Yankton County will also end up with 10 to 15-percent of acres unplanted. That’s according to David Charles, Farm Service Agency Executive Director for Yankton and Bon Homme Counties.
He says farmers did shift some of their acres from corn to soybeans before taking prevent plant, especially in Bon Homme County.
Charles reminds producers this is the final week they can come into their local FSA office and complete their crop acreage certification for the farm program.
