The Wright County Iowa Board of Supervisors voted 3 to 0 on Monday to approve the Prestage Farms pork processing facility. The $240-million dollar plant will take two years to build and will employ nearly 1,800 people, with an average salary of $47,000. Pork Plant owner Ron Prestage says he’s pleased with the backing he’s been getting from Wright County and other area communities.

He says there have been some complaints about fly problems with other ag processing facilities. Prestage says he’ll work with those ag businesses to fix the problem that existed well before his plant was even proposed.

Prestage says his proposed pork processing plant will have a positive impact on the environment.

Prestage chose to locate his pork plant near Eagle Grove in Wright County after Mason City officials rejected the project in their city.
