A group pushing to upgrade Highway 14 to four lanes in southern Minnesota is turning up pressure five weeks before the election. Their survey shows nearly two out of three people in the corridor support a gas tax increase so Highway 14 and other roads can be improved. New Ulm Mayor Robert Beussman
The survey of 700 residents along Highway 14 also found three-quarters support allowing the metro area to have a sales tax to fund light rail transit. (A gas tax increase and Southwest Light Rail in the Twin Cities were among unresolved issues preventing a special session on transportation funding.)
