President Obama is in Cuba this week on a trade mission along with Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack and other key government officials. National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson, who’s traveled to Cuba on eight trade trips, sees many benefits to the President’s visit and he hopes it spurs Congress to lift the trade embargo.
He says there are several advantages for U.S. agriculture with enhanced trade to Cuba.
Johnson says the embargo will eventually be lifted and the sooner the better.
Johnson says the other provision that needs to be approved is Secretary Vilsack’s plan for opening a U.S. trade office in Havana. He says by having officials there, it gives the U.S. a leg up on establishing and solidifying trade ties.
