Presidential Candidates Mixed on Estate Tax

Presidential Candidates Mixed on Estate Tax

This week Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump came out in favor of repealing the estate tax. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley tried in 2005 and 2006 to get that measure passed, but came up a few votes short. He says the chances of getting that tax repealed are greater if the President supports it. Grassley says while Trump wants it repealed, his opponent Hillary Clinton is in favor of it.

Grassley says Clinton wants farmers to sell their farms before they die and have the buyer, hopefully a large operator then pay the estate taxes rather than allowing it to be inherited by the original owner’s family.

Grassley teamed up with South Dakota Senator John Thune this spring to introduce and estate tax relief bill.
