A Mexican government official is warning that the anti-trade policy being pushed by U.S. Presidential candidates would deal a severe blow to the global economy. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal shares those concerns and says those candidates need to understand how important trade is to agriculture and the overall economy.
He says the two presumed Presidential nominees, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton both need to take the time to learn more about how important trade is to farmers.
VanderWal says the U.S. as world leader also has an obligation to follow through on trade agreements and help feed a growing world population.
Donald Trump and Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton have both expressed opposition to the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement awaiting approval by Congress. Farm Bureau is one of many farm groups that backs that trade deal.
