Texas Senator Ted Cruz who just this week announced his intentions to run for President in 2016 has introduced legislation to repeal the Renewable Fuel Standard. Nebraska Ethanol Board Administrator Todd Sneller says he wasn’t surprised by the measure on the RFS coming from an oil state lawmaker.
Renewable Fuel Association Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper says it’s interesting that Senator Cruz attacks biofuels but doesn’t admit the oil industry gets large government subsidies.
Sneller says what’s disturbing are the latest criticisms on the R-F-S coming from elected officials who don’t understand the standard or the issue.
Cooper says Senator Cruz says the government should get out of the energy business. He says if Cruz really believes that, then the oil industry needs to get out of the tax code where they’ve been embedded for 100 years at the expense of the American taxpayer.
