President Donald Trump is vowing to support Wisconsin’s dairy producers in their trade dispute with Canada. Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minter Justin Trudeau says his country is not the problem and the U.S. has a large dairy trade surplus with Canada. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association President Marv Post says it’s not a fair comparison because Canada’s dairy product pricing system is much different than what the U.S. has.

He says part of the problem is Canada is disregarding its trade obligations under NAFTA and that’s why the President wants a rewrite.

Post says recently Canada decided to impose import taxes on unfiltered milk which is used to make cheese.

Canadian Ambassador David MacNaughton says the financial problems in the U.S. dairy industry are a result of overproduction in the U.S. and globally.
