President Trump has asked Congress to renew Trade Promotion Authority for him for another three years. TPA expires June 30 unless the President makes a formal request before April 1. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says his group backs the move because it’s important the U.S. reassure its trading partners it’s serious about trade agreements
He says the U.S. is in the middle of working on several trade negotiations, which adds to the importance of having TPA renewed.
VanderWal says the administration also needs TPA in place as it works to advance bilateral trade deals.
U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer says it’s likely Congress will renew the trade authority for the President.
