President Donald Trump has turned up the heat on China, threatening to raise tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods from 10 percent to 25 percent on Friday. He also threatened to impose a 25 percent tariff on an additional $325 billion of Chinese goods shortly. American Soybean Association board member and South Dakota farmer Kevin Scott says that’s disappointing for soybean producers who were hoping for an agreement to end the trade war.
The President says the trade negotiations with China are taking too long. However, Scott hopes the move won’t end trade discussions with China altogether.
Scott says the trade war has already caused a lot of pain to America’s agriculture sector.
So far, China trade negotiators are still planning to meet in the U.S. this week, but have also threatened to walk from the talks until after the 2020 election.
