President Donald Trump is traveling to India next week as he continues to push for bilateral trade deals. Steve Mercer with U.S. Wheat Associates says they hope the President will be able to convince India not to dump its wheat on export markets. In the past India was a major importer but has turned into a major wheat producer.
He says U.S. Wheat Associates is studying India’s wheat policies closely and will share that information with President Trump and U.S. trade officials.
Mercer says India is expected the dump large amounts of wheat onto the world market. This will depress prices and hurt U.S. and global wheat growers.
Mercer says they don’t want a trade deal struck with India unless it reforms their current wheat policy.
