Both the National Farmers Union and the American Coalition for Ethanol are questioning President Obama’s decision to leave the Renewable Fuel Standard out of greenhouse gas reduction talks. The President’s formal submission of his plan for GHG reduction did not include the RFS. ACE Executive Vice President Brian Jennings says climate change can’t be successfully reduced without the RFS.
Jennings applauds NFU leaders for bringing the importance of the RFS to climate change to the attention of the President. He says the greenhouse gas debate highlights a concern his group has with the President’s lack of commitment to forcefully support the RFS with the needed volume requirement. The EPA hasn’t yet released those requirements for this year or 2014.
Not only did President Obama leave the RFS out of the greenhouse reduction discussions, but he also did not include any other ways agriculture or rural communities can be involved in reducing GHG emissions.
