President Obama is coming to South Dakota after all. Mike Cartney, President of Lake Area Technical Institute, made the announcement at a Monday afternoon news conference in Watertown.

Watertown Superintendent Dr. Lesli Jutting says it will be a big day for the community of Watertown, the state and students at L-A-T-I.

In making the announcement the White House said the President would be speaking to the L-A-T-I graduates to bring recognition to the school’s accomplishments as one of the top community colleges in the nation. L-A-T-I is the only college in the nation to be named a finalist with distinction in each of the Aspen Institute’s three Community College Excellence competitions. The 48th annual graduation ceremony begins 4 p.m. May sixth at the Watertown Civic Arena. Further details about the President’s South Dakota visit will be provided in coming days.
