Re-emergence of the New World Screwworm (NWS) has become a recent concern for American agriculture. As the fly moves closer to the U.S. border through Mexico, organizations like National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) encourage livestock producers to ready themselves for the threat.

Julia Herman DVM, NCBA Beef Specialist, said that there are several practical measures producers can take to prepare.

“We have a lot of great resources on the NCBA website…” Dr. Herman said. “But also things that we can prepare, one of the biggest things is working with your veterinarian, have that really good relationship with them, understand what might need to happen if this New World Screwworm gets into the states.”
