A service today (Monday) was held to honor Veterans at Mount Marty College in Yankton. A full room of students and veterans enjoyed the prayer service with a welcome from Interim President Dr. Thomas Lorang and reflections from State Senator elect Bernie Hunhoff, who spoke about South Dakotans who served the nation.
Hunhoff told stories of several veterans in South Dakota’s history, from farmers who learned to fly war planes, to the American Indians who served as code talkers in World War II.
The service included a performance of the National Anthem by students in Mount Marty’s choir and taps, played by Dean Rettedal.
Veterans Day will officially be celebrated tomorrow and has been since 1938, when Congress designated Armistice Day as a national holiday.
