Controversy has arisen again in the Nebraska Unicameral, again involving Senator Ernie Chambers of Omaha.
The Unicameral…after supporting his prairie dog bill during the first two rounds of debate…has, in effect, killed it.
Chambers warns colleagues they might regret their action. . .
Chambers proposed overturning a 2012 law which gave counties additional power to control prairie dogs. Chambers claimed the law violated property rights.
Senator Al Davis of Hyannis took the unusual step of acting during final reading to effectively kill the bill.
Senator Dave Bloomfield of Hoskins questioned Davis about why he didn’t act earlier. . .
Bloomfield says the method sets a dangerous precedent, adding he will try to bring the bill back before the legislature.
