The ethanol industry scored a win at yesterday’s White House meeting on the RFS. Administration officials and key Senators met with President Trump. Matt Merritt with POET says the President committed to having the Reid Vapor Pressure rule lifted so E15 can be offered year-round. He says that will help corn farmers struggling with a depressed farm economy.
Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor is hopeful for RVP relief in time to allow E15 use this summer.
Merritt says the President also agreed to stop the abuse of hardship waivers for refiners.
He says the President killed Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s proposal to impose a cap on RINs. However, Cruz came back with an alternative to attach RINs to biofuels exports.
Merritt says put RINs on ethanol exports is against the law and it also creates trade issues.
