America’s pork producers need more trade agreements to export some of the additional pork that will be processed with five new plants coming on-line in the next few years. The National Pork Producers Council is urging the Trump Administration to push for bi-laterals in Japan and the Asian Pacific region. Nebraska Pork Producers Association President Russ Vering was in the nation’s capital last week and spoke with Nebraska’s Congressional delegation about the importance of those deals.

He says there’s already been groundwork laid in the Japanese market that should help the U.S. strike a bilateral deal.

Vering says they can also build upon the past success of trade negotiations with other Asian Pacific countries.

Vering is hoping Vice President Mike Pence will bring up trade on his upcoming trip to Japan.
