Pork producers from across the country are visiting with members of Congress this week in the nation’s capital about their priority issues. Topping the list is trade and trying to convince lawmakers to bring TPP up for a vote and pass it. National Pork Producers Council President John Weber says he thinks they have a chance to get that done.
He says another concern their members have is what may come out with new Grain Inspections Stockers and Packyard or GIPSA Rules.
Weber says a primary worry of pork producers is the development of a Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccine Bank.
Weber says that F-M-D is such a difficult disease that any occurrence of it in the U.S. could possibly devastate the entire U.S. livestock industry.
