The House Ways and Means Committee will talk about the impacts of tariffs and trade retaliation when they meet today. It comes at an opportune time for the U.S. pork industry as producers from around the country are in Washington D.C. for their annually Fly In. Nebraska Pork Producers Association Executive Director Al Juhnke says the message he wants to give the committee is how critical it is for the U.S. to jointly discuss the trade issue with allies and with China to find common ground.
He says any trade retaliation against U.S. agriculture hurts the entire economy.
Juhnke says it’s important for his group and farmers to take their concerns to non-ag members of Congress and the administration.
Juhnke says pork producers are also visiting with Congress and the administration about the new farm bill, the need for a Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccine Bank and rural broadband.
