Pork Producers Say Electronic Logging Device Mandate Unworkable

Pork Producers Say Electronic Logging Device Mandate Unworkable

The Electronic Logging Device mandate rule for the trucking industry is expected to go into effect December 18th. That’s a concern for livestock haulers. The National Pork Producers Council has asked for an exemption based on what it calls incompatibility between federal hours of operation rules and how the livestock industry actually operates. Minnesota Pork Producers Association President Jay Moore says the exemption is needed for livestock haulers, who are watching out for the welfare of their animals.

He’s hoping a compromise can be worked out on the rule before it goes into effect.

Moore says the ELD mandated rule brings with it unintended consequences.

Besides NPPC, the Western Equipment Dealers Association also wants an exemption from the regulation.
