A global event, One Health Day is today and one of the participants is the National Pork Board. Pork Board’s Vice President of Science and Technology Dr. Dave Pyburn says they’re showing the public how the pork industry is doing what’s right for the overall health of people, pigs and the planet.
He says for some time now pork producers have been responsibly using antibiotics to address the health of their animals. That use will change slightly with the Veterinary Feed Directive that goes into effect the first of the year.
Pyburn says when the new rules go into effect in January, producers will work even closer with their local veterinarians when using antibiotics.
Pyburn says besides One Health Day, the Pork Board will also take part in health event with the Centers for Disease Control in the next few weeks.
