Pork Producers President Listens to Supreme Court Trial

Last week, the U-S Supreme Court heard testimony on the lawsuit case between the National Pork Producers Council and the state of California’s Proposition 12.  Proposition 12 requires additional spacing for animals for the product to be sold in California.   National Pork Producers president, Terry Wolters of Pipestone, Minnesota, sat in the Supreme Courtroom and listened to the testimony.  Wolters says it was a unique opportunity.  The pork producer president says all the justices were tuned in to the case at hand, and they asked several direct questions for both sides.  Wolters says after listening to the testimony from both sides, he feels confident the supreme court will ultimately rule in the pork producer’s favor.  Wolters says the state of Massachusetts has a similar rule of that of California, and the NPPC has filed a similar lawsuit.  He believes if the Supreme Court rules in favor of the National Pork Producers, the Massachusetts law will be dropped.
