Iowa Pork Producer Association members are partnering with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship to offer funding for pig farmers to implement new nutrient loss reduction technologies. IPPA President Gregg Hora says his group is providing $25,000 to help offset up to 50 percent of the costs for pig farmers to install saturated buffers or bioreactors on their farm land.

He says in the past year, IPPA helped the State Department of Agriculture complete 11 nutrient reduction projects. Hora says they’re helping fund more projects for the coming year.

Hora says by utilizing public-private partnerships they’ve been able to improve the water quality in the state with environmentally responsible practices on their operations.

The total support from the Iowa Pork Producers in partnering with the Iowa Ag Department now totals $75,000 for the 21 projects.
