Pork producers need to be vigilant in monitoring their herds this winter for a re-emergence of the PED Virus as well as other diseases that could be costly to the herd. That’s the advice of SDSU Extension Veterinarian Dr. Russ Daly. He says one of the emerging diseases is Seneca Valley virus which looks like foot and mouth disease.
Daly says the key to prevention of Seneca Valley virus and the other swine diseases is to practice good biosecurity and work closely with your local veterinarian.
He says producers should utilize the services of state diagnostic labs to help test and diagnose any possible swine diseases that may pop up.
