Three pork producers from the region have been named the 2018 Pig Farmers of Tomorrow. They include Adam Krause of South Dakota and Emma Lasco and Christine Snowden of Iowa. The award from the National Pork Board recognizes farm leaders, age 18 to 29, who intend to make pig farming their life’s work and are committed to using the pork industry’s We Care principles. Krause says he’s honored to be chosen as one of the winners, on his second try at the recognition.
He says it’s important for pork producers to share the message of how they care for their animals to consumers.
Krause says technology has helped pork producers improve how they care for the animals.
Krause is the fourth generation on his family farm near Clear Lake, South Dakota. He owns a pig nursery barn and grows corn, soybeans and wheat. Lasco is a territory manager for Smithfield Foods Midwest Production in Roland, Iowa and Snowden is an assistant farrowing manager in Audubon, Iowa.
