More than 120 pork producers from across the country are in the nation’s capital at the National Pork Producer’s Council Legislative Conference. They’re lobbying in part on trade. Minnesota has eight members attending and Minnesota Pork Producers President Greg Boerboom says while the trade dispute with China is still a concern, they’re goal is ratification of the USMCA trade agreement.
He says they also want to secure funding for the FMD Vaccine Bank and for more border inspectors to track African Swine Fever and other foreign animal diseases.
Boerboom says they’re working to develop new markets for U.S. pork and looking at both India, Indonesia and other far east countries.
He says they’re pushing to gain market share in the Philippines and Vietnam.
