Pork Producers Encouraged to do Common Swine Industry Audit

Pork producers are being advised to take part in the new Common Swine Industry Audit. It was created by the National Pork Board and industry leaders to avoid duplication of packer audits. SDSU Extension Swine Specialist Dr. Bob Thaler says while the Audit is a voluntary program, most packers are requiring producers take part in it. He says the audits build on the Pork Quality Assurance and PQA plus programs.

Thaler says the third party trained auditor will also review animal welfare and handling practices. So the audits are beneficial for both producers and consumers.

He says SDSU Extension has a series of upcoming meetings to help producers go through the Common Swine Industry Audit. For specific dates and times go to IGROW.org.
