The House Ag Committee’s livestock subcommittee has been holding hearings this week on the state of the nation’s livestock industry. Past National Pork Producers Council President and veterinarian Dr. Howard Hill testified about the negative impact the re-proposed GIPSA rule would have on pork producers.
He’s waiting to see details, but says if the GIPSA rule language is similar to 2010, it would hurt the pork industry and particularly smaller producers.
Hill also told House members about the importance of the Trans Pacific Partnership to the livestock industry. However, he doesn’t see the pact moving until the end of the year, at the earliest.
Hill testified the economic impact of the TPP will exceed all past free trade deals.
