Wednesday, National Pork Producers President Dr. Howard Hill testified before the House Agriculture Sub Committee on Livestock, Rural Development and Credit.  Hill says Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus is a difficult disease for the pork industry that needs some thoughtful response and follow through by regulators and government officials.

USDA is requiring reporting of the disease. Hill says workable rules are needed so the pork industry can work with government to control and eradicate PED virus.

Hill also told the sub committee that mandatory country of origin labeling rules are costly for the pork industry and his group continues to fight for repeal of the rule in U.S. circuit court and at the World Trade Organization.
