Tyson Foods plans to end use of the feed additive ractopamine used in pork starting in February of 2020. JBS is already moving ahead with that ban. Minnesota Pork Producers Association President Greg Boerboom says those processors are taking that action to be able to better access export markets.
He says most pork producers were using ractopamine to keep up with their competing producers. Boerboom says by not using it, they’ll likely be able to capture more market share.
Boerboom says it’s better to give consumers what they want and if they don’t want ractopamine in their pork then that’s the right move to eliminate it.
